Record audience at the meeting with Snøhetta and Ruukki

Apr 18, 2018

An impressive number of participants, over 650 architects, gathered at the “Masters of Architecture” meeting organized by SARP (Association of Polish Architects) in Katowice, Poland. Ruukki was the main partner of the event and Jette Hopp, from the renowned international architectural office Snøhetta, was the key speaker.

At the end of March more than 650 persons, including the chief architect of Katowice and the board of local SARP unit, but first and foremost a tremendous group of young architects, arrived at the International Conference Centre in Katowice to listen to the inspiring lecture of Ms Jette Hopp, the Norwegian architect representing the international architectural office Snøhetta.

Before the main lecture there was time for Ruukki, the main partner of the event. Cor-Ten steels, steel façade claddings, Ruukki Forma and Ruukki Emotion façade systems perfectly suit current design trends. Arkadiusz Krześniak, Business Manager at Ruukki Polska, presented many Polish and international references showcasing the use of Ruukki’s façade products in commercial, industrial and cultural buildings. Strong brand, balanced product portfolio and global experience were the reasons behind the decision to choose Ruukki as the major partner of the meeting with Jette Hopp.

Jette Hopp has been working at Snøhetta for over a decade. She leads the team responsible for e.g. the Kjørbo power plant renovation project. Her speech, almost two hours long, was focused on connections between architecture and nature and the most interesting projects such as cultural buildings, including the Royal Library of Alexandria or Opera Oslo House. In 2009, the opera building in Oslo was awarded the Mies van der Rohe Award for the best building in Europe. Ruukki delivered steel structures for this project.

Cooperation of Snøhetta and Ruukki also includes educational aspects to promote modern architecture and innovative solutions among students and young professionals.  Architects from Snøhetta are among jury members in Ruukki’s international competition “The Unbelievable Challenge”. The grand prize is worth competing for, as it means a 10-week internship at Snøhetta in Oslo. There are dozens of candidates from all over the world entering this architectural competition in each edition. For Ruukki in Poland, it is not the only event of this type, as contacts with students and architects play an important role in the company’s strategy and mission: “Building your tomorrow”. Currently we are in the final stage of “Builder for Young Architects”, the program organized by Builder magazine with partners including Ruukki Polska and SSAB Poland.
